|---|---|---|
| Comprehension (समझ) | जो दिया है, उसे सीधे पढ़ना | Which month had the highest rainfall? |
| Interpretation (व्याख्या) | आँकड़ों का अर्थ बताना | What does the rise in October show? |
| Analysis (विश्लेषण) | भागों की तुलना, संबंध और पैटर्न ढूँढना | Compare the time spent on mobile and on reading. |
| Inference (अनुमान) | दिए संकेतों से आगे की बात निकालना | What can be inferred about the campaign? |
| Evaluation (मूल्यांकन) | निर्णय, राय या सुझाव देना | Do you agree that the campaign was successful? Support your answer. |
- शीर्षक: "Daily number of students at the playground", यानी मैदान पर विद्यार्थियों की गिनती।
|---|---|---|
| बढ़ना | rise, increase, grow, climb, go up | बढ़ना |
| घटना | fall, decrease, decline, drop, go down | घटना |
| सबसे ऊँचा बिंदु | peak, highest point, maximum | चरम, अधिकतम |
| सबसे नीचा बिंदु | lowest point, minimum, bottom | न्यूनतम |
| घटना-बढ़ना | fluctuate, vary | ऊपर-नीचे होना |
| स्थिर रहना | remain steady, stay constant, level off | एक-सा रहना |
| गति | sharply, steeply, gradually, slightly | तेज़ी से, तीखे ढंग से, धीरे-धीरे, थोड़ा-सा |
| गुना | double, twice, triple, half | दोगुना, तिगुना, आधा |
| हिस्सा | majority, minority, proportion, share | बहुमत, अल्पमत, अनुपात, हिस्सा |
| अनुमान | approximately, about, nearly, roughly | लगभग |
| तुलना | higher than, lower than, as much as, compared with | से अधिक, से कम, के बराबर, की तुलना में |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | सीधा पठन | Which activity takes the most time? | सबसे ऊँचा दंड देखिए: Study |
| 2 | तुलना | Is mobile time more or less than sports time? | दोनों मान लिखिए, फिर तुलना कीजिए |
| 3 | गणना | What is the total of sports and TV time? | 60 + 45 = 105 minutes |
| 4 | रुझान / पैटर्न | What pattern do you notice in the figures? | बड़े से छोटे क्रम में तुलना देखिए |
| 5 | अनुमान | What can be inferred about the students' priorities? | आँकड़ों के आधार पर निष्कर्ष |
| 6 | मूल्यांकन | Do you think reading time is enough? Give a reason. | राय + आँकड़े का प्रमाण |
| 7 | शब्दावली | Find a word which means "at the end". | गद्यांश से सीधा शब्द |
| 8 | शीर्षक / उद्देश्य | Suggest a title for the chart.
?" का उत्तर "... was ... because ..." से शुरू कीजिए। यह नियम पिछले लेख का ही है।
- चार्ट से सटीक पढ़िए: जहाँ संख्या लिखी है, वही उतारिए। अनुमान से "लगभग" तभी लिखिए जब दंड दो रेखाओं के बीच में हो।
- तुलना में दोनों पक्ष लिखिए: "Mobile is more than sports" अधूरा है। "Mobile, at 120 minutes, is twice the 60 minutes spent on sports" पूरा है।
- ऐसा निष्कर्ष मत दीजिए जिसे आँकड़े समर्थन न दें: चार्ट में "कारण" अक्सर नहीं दिए होते, इसलिए कारण बताते समय "probably" या "may be" लिखिए।
- गणना दिखाइए: 2 अंक के प्रश्न में संख्या के साथ एक पंक्ति में जोड़-घटाव लिखिए: "120 − 35 = 85 minutes"।
- मूल्यांकन में राय + प्रमाण: "I agree/disagree because..." और उसके बाद कम से कम एक आँकड़ा।
वाक्य-साँचों के प्रयोग के उदाहरण
| साँचा | भरा हुआ वाक्य |
|---|---|
| बढ़ना | The number of books issued rose from 190 in August to 340 in October. |
| घटना | There was a fall of 30 books between October and November. |
| तुलना | Cyclists are 20 more than bus users, 60 against 40. |
| हिस्सा | Twenty-five per cent of the students walk to school. |
| निष्कर्ष | The data suggests that the campaign worked, because the issues doubled. |
व्याकरण की गलतियों से बचने के लिए ऊपर के साँचों में Tense ध्यान से रखिए। Tense का अभ्यास करने के लिए हमारे English Grammar पृष्ठ के अभ्यास उपयोगी हैं।
9. अभ्यास सेट 1: दंड-चार्ट – Time After School
दृश्य सामग्री: दंड-चार्ट (Figure 1) | कुल अंक: 10 (MCQ 4×1 + अति लघु 2×1 + लघु 2×2) | सुझाया समय: 15 मिनट
पहले छह कदमों के साथ सामग्री पढ़िए और स्वयं हल कीजिए। उसके बाद ही उत्तर खोलिए।
A school in a district town wanted to find out how its Class 12 students use the hours after school. Each of the 120 students who took part noted down the time spent on six activities on a normal day. The class teacher then averaged the figures, which are shown in Figure 1.
The results surprised many teachers. Students spent the most time on study, which was expected, since the board examination was only a few months away. But second place went to mobile phones, which took up 120 minutes, twice the time given to sports. Reading books other than the syllabus, which the library had hoped would be popular, came last with just 35 minutes. Household work and television stood at 40 and 45 minutes respectively.
The principal said that the figures should not be seen as a complaint but as a starting point. "Time is not wasted only when it is spent on study," she remarked. "It is wasted when we do not know where it goes."
A. Choose the correct option. (4×1 = 4)
- Which activity takes the most time?
- Mobile
- Study
- Sports
- TV
- How much more time do students spend on mobile phones than on reading books?
- 75 minutes
- 80 minutes
- 85 minutes
- 95 minutes
- The time spent on sports and TV together is —
- 95 minutes
- 105 minutes
- 115 minutes
- 120 minutes
- Which statement is supported by Figure 1?
- Sports take more time than mobile phones.
- Mobile use takes twice the time given to sports.
- Reading takes more time than household work.
- TV takes more time than study.
B. Answer in one sentence / word / number. (2×1 = 2)
- On which activity do students spend the least time?
- Study time is what fraction of the total time shown in the chart?
C. Answer briefly, in about 30–40 words. (2×2 = 4)
- Compare the time spent on mobile phones and on reading books, using figures from the chart.
- What does the principal mean by "It is wasted when we do not know where it goes"?
उत्तर और कारण देखिए
A. MCQ- (b) Study। सबसे ऊँचा दंड 150 मिनट का है (सीधा पठन)।
- (c) 85 minutes। 120 − 35 = 85।
- (b) 105 minutes। 60 + 45 = 105।
- (b) Mobile use takes twice the time given to sports। 120 ÷ 60 = 2। दूसरे विकल्प गलत हैं: खेल (60) मोबाइल (120) से कम है, किताबें (35) घरेलू काम (40) से कम हैं, और टीवी (45) अध्ययन (150) से कम है।
- Reading books (35 minutes)।
- One-third। कुल समय 150 + 120 + 60 + 45 + 40 + 35 = 450 मिनट है, और 150 ÷ 450 = 1/3।
- Students spend 120 minutes a day on mobile phones but only 35 minutes on reading books. The difference is 85 minutes, and mobile time is more than three times the reading time.
- She means that the real problem is not any one activity but the lack of awareness. When students do not know where their time goes, they cannot plan it, so time gets wasted even without anyone noticing.
10. अभ्यास सेट 2: तालिका – The Village Pond
दृश्य सामग्री: तालिका (Table 1) | कुल अंक: 10 (MCQ 4×1 + अति लघु 2×1 + लघु 2×2) | सुझाया समय: 15 मिनट
पहले छह कदमों के साथ सामग्री पढ़िए और स्वयं हल कीजिए। उसके बाद ही उत्तर खोलिए।
A village in a hilly region depends on a single pond for its water in the dry months. The village council has kept a record of the rainfall and of the water level in the pond at the end of each month from June to November, as shown in Table 1.
The record shows that the pond fills slowly at first. In June, when only 80 mm of rain fell, the level stood at 4 feet. The heaviest rain came in July and August, and by the end of August the pond was at its highest, 12 feet. After that the rains weakened, but the level did not fall at once. Even in October, when rainfall was only 40 mm, the pond still held 9 feet of water. By November the level had dropped to 7 feet.
Using this record, the council has decided that the water must be used carefully from December, because there will be almost no rain until the next monsoon.
| Month | Rainfall (mm) | Water level (feet) |
|---|---|---|
| June | 80 | 4 |
| July | 240 | 9 |
| August | 300 | 12 |
| September | 180 | 11 |
| October | 40 | 9 |
| November | 10 | 7 |
A. Choose the correct option. (4×1 = 4)
- In which month was the rainfall the highest?
- July
- August
- September
- October
- What was the water level at the end of September?
- 9 feet
- 10 feet
- 11 feet
- 12 feet
- By how many feet did the water level fall between September and November?
- 2 feet
- 3 feet
- 4 feet
- 5 feet
- Which statement is supported by the table?
- The pond dried up in October.
- The pond level fell slowly after the rains weakened.
- Rainfall and pond level always rose together.
- The pond was at its highest in July.
B. Answer in one sentence / word / number. (2×1 = 2)
- What was the total rainfall in July and August?
- Which month recorded the lowest rainfall?
C. Answer briefly, in about 30–40 words. (2×2 = 4)
- Describe how the water level in the pond changed from June to November.
- The pond level was 9 feet in both July and October, although the rainfall was very different. Why do you think this happened?
उत्तर और कारण देखिए
A. MCQ- (b) August। तालिका में अगस्त का मान 300 mm सबसे अधिक है।
- (c) 11 feet। सितंबर की पंक्ति और तीसरा स्तंभ देखिए।
- (c) 4 feet। 11 − 7 = 4।
- (b) The pond level fell slowly after the rains weakened। अक्टूबर में वर्षा सिर्फ़ 40 mm थी, फिर भी स्तर 9 फ़ीट रहा। अन्य विकल्प गलत हैं: तालिका में पानी सूखा नहीं, दोनों हमेशा साथ नहीं बढ़े (सितंबर में वर्षा 180 mm थी पर स्तर 12 से घटकर 11 हुआ), और सबसे ऊँचा स्तर जुलाई में नहीं, अगस्त में था।
- 540 mm। 240 + 300 = 540 mm।
- November (10 mm)।
- The water level rose from 4 feet in June to its highest point of 12 feet in August. After that it fell gradually, to 11 feet in September, 9 feet in October and 7 feet in November.
- In July the pond was still filling up after heavy rain of 240 mm, so the level was rising. In October it was slowly emptying from the stored water since the rain had nearly stopped. So the pond reached the same level of 9 feet once while rising and once while falling.
11. अभ्यास सेट 3: रेखा-ग्राफ़ – The Reading Campaign
दृश्य सामग्री: रेखा-ग्राफ़ (Figure 3) | कुल अंक: 10 (MCQ 4×1 + अति लघु 2×1 + लघु 2×2) | सुझाया समय: 15 मिनट
पहले छह कदमों के साथ सामग्री पढ़िए और स्वयं हल कीजिए। उसके बाद ही उत्तर खोलिए।
The library of a senior secondary school issues books to students every month. In September the librarian, with the help of the English teacher, began a reading campaign: a weekly "book talk" in the morning assembly and a display of new books near the entrance. Figure 3 shows the number of books issued each month from July to December.
Before the campaign, the library issued only 180 books in July and 190 in August. The figure jumped to 260 in September, the month in which the campaign began, and rose again to 340 in October. In November there was a small fall to 310, since the half-yearly examinations kept students busy. In December, however, the library issued 380 books, the highest figure of the six months.
A. Choose the correct option. (4×1 = 4)
- How many books were issued in October?
- 260
- 310
- 340
- 380
- In which month did the number of books issued fall compared with the month before?
- August
- September
- November
- December
- By how many did the books issued increase from August to October?
- 70
- 80
- 150
- 160
- The steepest rise from one month to the next took place between —
- July and August
- August and September
- September and October
- November and December
B. Answer in one sentence / word / number. (2×1 = 2)
- What caused the small fall in November?
- What is the total number of books issued in July and August?
C. Answer briefly, in about 30–40 words. (2×2 = 4)
- Explain the trend shown in the graph from July to December.
- "The reading campaign was successful." Do you agree? Support your answer with figures.
उत्तर और कारण देखिए
A. MCQ- (c) 340। अक्टूबर के बिंदु को पढ़िए।
- (c) November। संख्या 340 से घटकर 310 हुई।
- (c) 150। 340 − 190 = 150।
- (c) September and October। हर महीने का बदलाव: जुलाई से अगस्त +10, अगस्त से सितंबर +70, सितंबर से अक्टूबर +80, अक्टूबर से नवंबर −30, नवंबर से दिसंबर +70। सबसे बड़ा +80 है।
- The half-yearly examinations, which kept students busy।
- 370। 180 + 190 = 370।
- The number of books issued was almost steady at 180 and 190 in July and August. It then rose sharply to 260 in September and 340 in October, fell slightly to 310 in November, and reached its highest point of 380 in December.
- Yes, I agree. Before the campaign the library issued 190 books in August, and by December this had doubled to 380. Even the dip to 310 in November, caused by examinations, was much higher than the 180 and 190 of the first two months.
12. अभ्यास सेट 4: वृत्त-चार्ट – The Journey to School
दृश्य सामग्री: वृत्त-चार्ट (Figure 4) | कुल अंक: 10 (MCQ 4×1 + अति लघु 2×1 + लघु 2×2) | सुझाया समय: 15 मिनट
पहले छह कदमों के साथ सामग्री पढ़िए और स्वयं हल कीजिए। उसके बाद ही उत्तर खोलिए।
A school with 200 students carried out a survey on how its students reach school every day. The result is shown in Figure 4. The most common mode is the bicycle, used by nearly a third of the students. One in four students walks, since many live in the neighbouring lanes. The school bus carries one-fifth of the students, while 15 per cent come on motorbikes or in cars, mostly dropped off by parents. The remaining students use other means such as shared autos.
The principal noted that more than half of the students reach school on foot or by bicycle, which keeps the road less crowded and the air cleaner. However, the narrow gate becomes very busy between 8 and 8:15 a.m., when buses, cars and bicycles arrive together.
A. Choose the correct option. (4×1 = 4)
- Which is the most common way of reaching school?
- Walking
- Bicycle
- Bus
- Motorbike or car
- How many students walk to school?
- 25
- 40
- 50
- 60
- What percentage of students come by bus or by motorbike/car?
- 30%
- 35%
- 45%
- 55%
- Which statement is supported by the passage and the chart?
- Half of the students come by bus.
- More than half of the students walk or cycle.
- Motorbike and car users are more than cyclists.
- Nobody uses any other means.
B. Answer in one sentence / word / number. (2×1 = 2)
- How many students come by motorbike or car?
- What is the difference between the number of cyclists and the number of bus users?
C. Answer briefly, in about 30–40 words. (2×2 = 4)
- State two conclusions the school can draw about the traffic at its gate from the passage and the chart.
- Suggest one step to encourage more students to walk or cycle, and support it with data.
उत्तर और कारण देखिए
A. MCQ- (b) Bicycle। सबसे बड़ा हिस्सा 30% साइकिल का है।
- (c) 50। कुल 200 का 25% = 200 × 25 ÷ 100 = 50।
- (b) 35%। बस 20% और मोटरबाइक/कार 15%, यानी 20 + 15 = 35%।
- (b) More than half of the students walk or cycle। पैदल 25% और साइकिल 30% मिलकर 55% होते हैं। अन्य विकल्प चार्ट से मेल नहीं खाते: बस केवल 20% है, मोटरबाइक/कार (15%) साइकिल (30%) से कम हैं, और "Other" का 10% हिस्सा है।
- 30 students। 200 का 15% = 30।
- 20 students। साइकिल 200 का 30% = 60 और बस 20% = 40, इसलिए 60 − 40 = 20।
- First, a large number of students, 55 per cent, come on foot or by bicycle, so the gate needs safe space for them. Second, the gate is very crowded between 8 and 8:15 a.m., when buses, cars and bicycles arrive together, so the school should manage the timings or entries.
- The school can provide safe cycle stands and a marked walking path. Since 55 per cent of the students already walk or cycle, this would make their journey safer and may encourage the 15 per cent who now come by motorbike or car to use these means.
कारण बताते समय "probably" या "may be" लिखिए।
