Objectiveबहुविकल्पी, जैसे: “For how long did the hail fall?
VSA“Who / What / When”, जैसे: “What was the one hope of Lencho’s family?”
SA“Why / How / What does it show”, जैसे: “Why did the conductor call Valli ‘madam’?”
Lexical“Find a word from the extract which means …”

Extract (हमारे शब्दों में लिखा गया अंश)The hailstorm lasted for an hour and left the whole valley white. Not a leaf remained on the trees, and the ripe corn was totally destroyed. Standing in the middle of the field, Lencho said that even a plague of locusts would have left more behind. That night his family spoke of hunger, but they had a single hope: help from God. Lencho, who knew how to write, wrote a letter asking God for a hundred pesos to sow his field again, and dropped it in the mailbox in town.

Extract (हमारे शब्दों में लिखा गया अंश)The pilot was flying an old Dakota back to England when he saw huge storm clouds ahead. He did not have enough fuel to fly around them, so he flew straight in. Inside the clouds everything was black; the compass spun round and round, and the radio was dead. Then he saw another aeroplane, a black one with no lights on its wings, and its pilot waved to him to follow. After half an hour it led him down to a runway and disappeared.

Extract (हमारे शब्दों में लिखा गया अंश)Kisa Gotami’s only son died, and in her grief she carried the child from neighbour to neighbour, asking for medicine. At last she was sent to the Buddha, who asked her for a handful of mustard seed, which she joyfully promised to procure. The seed had to come from a house where no one had lost a child, husband, parent or friend. She went from house to house, but every home had lost a loved one. 5. नाटक: The Proposal (वैकल्पिक)

Extract (हमारे शब्दों में लिखा गया अंश)Lomov, a wealthy neighbour, arrives at Chubukov’s house in evening dress to ask for the hand of Chubukov’s daughter, Natalya. He complains of palpitations, but before he can propose properly, he and Natalya quarrel over who owns the Oxen Meadows, and then over whose dog, Guess or Squeezer, is better. Chubukov joins in. Lomov, overcome with excitement, falls into an armchair and is thought to be dead. When he comes round, Chubukov pushes the two into agreeing to marry, but they start arguing about the dogs again, and Chubukov calls for champagne.
  1. VSAWhat did Lomov come to ask for? [1]

3‘black’ के संदर्भ-अनुसार अर्थ; ‘fly’ से बने मुहावरे और वाक्यांश (fly a flag, fly into a rage आदि); उड़ने से जुड़े क्रिया-शब्द
4यौगिक शब्द (compound words); phrasal verbs, जैसे kept back, ramble on, get along with; मुहावरे
6would और used to का प्रयोग; noun modifiers; a bit of, a piece of जैसे मात्रा-वाचक वाक्यांश
8पुराने ढंग के शब्द-प्रयोगों (thee, pray tell me, repaired to, kinsmen, Mark!)

  2. ‘Find a word from the extract which means …’

  3. ‘The Black Aeroplane’ में ‘a black aeroplane’ का ‘black’ किस अर्थ में आया है?

बोर्ड के पाठ्यक्रम में Reference to the Context के कुल 4+2 = 6 अंक हैं: First Flight से एक गद्यांश और एक पद्यांश।

The Proposal
