Important Note: The syllabus has been rationalised. Topics such as Euclid’s Division Lemma and the entire chapter on Constructions are NOT part of the current syllabus.

Subject Overview

Mathematics is a compulsory core subject in RBSE Class 10. The subject is evaluated as a concept-based and method-oriented discipline, where logical reasoning and correct step-wise solutions are given priority.

RBSE awards marks not only for final answers, but also for proper method, reasoning and presentation.

Marks & Assessment Structure

  • Total Marks: 100
  • Nature of Examination: Theory-based
  • Assessment Focus:
    • Conceptual clarity
    • Step-wise problem solving
    • Accuracy and logical presentation

Shortcut methods without proper justification are generally not rewarded.

Unit-wise Syllabus Structure (Updated for 2025–26)

The following unit structure is fully aligned with the rationalised RBSE syllabus as notified in the official Anudeshika.

1. Number Systems (Real Numbers)

  • The Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic
  • Revisiting Irrational Numbers (proofs of √2, √3, √5)

2. Algebra

  • Polynomials: Geometrical meaning of zeroes, relationship between zeroes and coefficients
  • Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables: Graphical method, algebraic methods (substitution and elimination)
  • Quadratic Equations: Solution by factorisation, nature of roots
  • Arithmetic Progressions: nth term, sum of first n terms

3. Geometry

  • Triangles: Similarity of triangles, criteria for similarity (AAA, SSS, SAS)
  • Circles: Tangents to a circle, number of tangents from a point
  • Constructions chapter has been removed

4. Coordinate Geometry

  • Distance Formula
  • Section Formula (internal division)

5. Trigonometry

  • Introduction: Trigonometric ratios, ratios of specific angles (0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°)
  • Identities: sin²A + cos²A = 1
  • Heights and Distances: Angle of elevation and depression (simple problems)

6. Mensuration

  • Areas Related to Circles: Area of sector and segment
  • Surface Areas and Volumes: Combination of solids (cube, cuboid, sphere, hemisphere, cylinder, cone)

7. Statistics and Probability

  • Statistics: Mean, median and mode of grouped data
  • Probability: Theoretical approach

RBSE Examiner Expectations

  • Correct use of formulas
  • Logical sequence of steps
  • Neat presentation and clear working
  • Accuracy in calculation

Answers with missing steps or unjustified shortcuts may lose marks even if the final answer is correct.

How Students Should Use This Syllabus

  • Study only the topics listed above
  • Use the NCERT Mathematics textbook as prescribed
  • Practice writing full step-wise solutions
  • Avoid studying removed or old syllabus topics
