01 What are Modals? (Modals क्या हैं?)

Modals (Modal Auxiliaries) वे सहायक क्रियाएं हैं जो Main Verb के साथ मिलकर Ability, Permission, Possibility, Obligation, Advice आदि व्यक्त करती हैं।

Hindi: Modals = विशेष सहायक क्रियाएं जो योग्यता, अनुमति, संभावना, कर्तव्य, सलाह बताती हैं।

📝 Examples:

I can swim. (मैं तैर सकता हूं - Ability)

May I come in? (क्या मैं अंदर आ सकता हूं - Permission)

You should work hard. (तुम्हें मेहनत करनी चाहिए - Advice)

It may rain today. (आज बारिश हो सकती है - Possibility)

03 Important Rules (महत्वपूर्ण नियम)

🌟 GOLDEN RULES OF MODALS 🌟

Rule 1: Modal के बाद हमेशा Verb की 1st Form (V1) आती है।

Example: He can play (NOT can plays / can played)

Rule 2: Modals के साथ s/es नहीं लगता (Third Person में भी)।

Example: He can swim (NOT He cans swim)

Rule 3: Modals के साथ do/does/did का प्रयोग नहीं होता।

Example: Can you swim? (NOT Do you can swim?)

Rule 4: Negative में Modal के बाद not लगता है।

Example: He cannot swim / He can't swim

Rule 5: Question में Modal वाक्य के शुरू में आता है।

Example: Can he swim? / Will you come?

04 Can & Could

🔵 CAN (सकता है)

1. Ability (योग्यता)I can swim.
2. Permission (अनुमति)Can I go now?
3. Request (निवेदन)Can you help me?
4. Possibility (संभावना)It can rain today.

🟠 COULD (सका/सकता था)

1. Past AbilityI could swim when I was young.
2. Polite RequestCould you help me, please?
3. PossibilityIt could rain tomorrow.
4. SuggestionYou could try again.

05 May & Might

🟢 MAY (सकता है/हो सकता है)

1. Permission (अनुमति)May I come in?
2. Possibility (संभावना)It may rain today.
3. Wish/BlessingMay you live long!
4. PurposeWork hard so that you may pass.

💗 MIGHT (शायद/हो सकता था)

1. Less PossibilityIt might rain. (कम संभावना)
2. Past of MayHe said it might rain.
3. Polite RequestMight I borrow your pen?
4. Guess/SuppositionHe might be at home.

⚠️ May vs Might - Important Difference:

May = More possibility (ज्यादा संभावना) - It may rain today. (50-70%)

Might = Less possibility (कम संभावना) - It might rain today. (30-40%)

06 Will & Would

🔵 WILL (गा/गी/गे)

1. Future (भविष्य)I will go tomorrow.
2. Promise (वादा)I will help you.
3. Willingness (इच्छा)I will do it.
4. RequestWill you help me?
5. DeterminationI will win this match.

💜 WOULD (गा था/करता)

1. Past of WillHe said he would come.
2. Polite RequestWould you help me?
3. Wish (इच्छा)I would like some tea.
4. Past HabitHe would walk daily.
5. ImaginaryIf I were rich, I would help.

07 Shall & Should

🔷 SHALL (गा/गी - I/We के साथ)

1. Future (I/We)I shall go tomorrow.
2. SuggestionShall we go?
3. OfferShall I help you?
4. Promise (II/III)You shall get a prize.
5. Command (II/III)You shall not steal.

🟡 SHOULD (चाहिए)

1. Advice (सलाह)You should work hard.
2. Duty (कर्तव्य)We should respect elders.
3. SuggestionYou should see a doctor.
4. ProbabilityHe should be at home.
5. PurposeWork hard so that you should pass.

08 Must & Ought to

🔴 MUST (जरूर/अवश्य)

1. Necessity (आवश्यकता)You must work hard.
2. Compulsion (बाध्यता)You must obey the law.
3. Strong AdviceYou must see a doctor.
4. Certainty (निश्चितता)He must be at home.
5. ProhibitionYou must not smoke here.

🟣 OUGHT TO (चाहिए - नैतिक)

1. Moral DutyWe ought to help the poor.
2. AdviceYou ought to work hard.
3. ProbabilityHe ought to be there by now.
4. DesirabilityChildren ought to obey parents.

Note: Ought to के बाद "to" आता है (अन्य modals में नहीं)

✅ Should vs Must vs Ought to:

Should = Advice (सलाह) - You should study. (कमजोर)

Ought to = Moral Duty (नैतिक कर्तव्य) - You ought to help. (मध्यम)

Must = Compulsion (बाध्यता) - You must go. (मजबूत)

09 Need & Dare (Semi-Modals)

🔵 NEED (जरूरत)

As Modal (Negative/Question में):

You need not worry. (तुम्हें चिंता की जरूरत नहीं)

Need I come? (क्या मुझे आना जरूरी है?)


As Main Verb:

You need to work hard.

He needs to go. (s लगता है)

🟠 DARE (हिम्मत करना)

As Modal (Negative/Question में):

He dare not go there. (उसकी हिम्मत नहीं)

Dare he do it? (क्या उसकी हिम्मत है?)


As Main Verb:

He dares to speak.

How dare you! (तुम्हारी हिम्मत कैसे हुई!)

Q: Modals क्या होते हैं?

A: Modals वे सहायक क्रियाएं हैं जो Ability, Permission, Possibility, Duty, Advice आदि व्यक्त करती हैं। जैसे: can, could, may, might, will, would, shall, should, must, ought to.

Q: Modal के बाद Verb की कौन सी form आती है?
